We need Volunteers for AstroCon 2004

Astrocon2004 - it's a conference of the astronomical variety. It's going to be held July 20 - 24 in Berkeley at the Doubletree Berkeley Marina. http://www.astrocon2004.org/housing.html Here's the schedule:
http://www.astrocon2004.org/events.html Amazing speakers, day and night!

  • Dr. Gibor Basri Tuesday night the 20th. He's the Brown Dwarf specialist, and Co-I on the Kepler Mission.
  • Lunch with Don Machholz on the 20th.
  • Friday's speakers: David Levy and Dr. Geoff Marcy
  • Saturday night - The USS Hornet. Apollo 12 Astronaut Alan Bean. ASP, ALPO, AAVSO events too.

I'm not asking for attendees, although you are welcome to register and attend using this registration form.

I am looking for volunteers!

I am trying to find volunteers to help support the conference. Even though Mojo and I have moved to southern California, I ended up stuck with coordinating the local bay area volunteers and I sure could use your help. I am getting help from SJAA Mike Koop :-) It will be so nice to see some familiar faces! I will be volunteering myself (Mojo too) and it would be great if you could help us out! Those of you who have already volunteered - you'll get a separate note from me.

Here are the times and the days we need volunteers and I hope you will email me or call me to volunteer. I believe the volunteers who work half a day get the other half day free registration (not the special evening events free), plus a free tee shirt! Once you check the volunteer needs, and the website, select a time and day let me know. I'll provide the particulars, and possible reimbursement for your prepaid registration.

  • Tuesday July 20, 1 p.m. - 8 p.m prepare registration packages and then staff the registration desk. Party in our room at the Doubletree (or elsewhere) afterwards. :-)
  • Wednesday July 21, 8 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. we need volunteers for registration, vendor setup, meetings so tell us morning afternoon or evening preferred times. Evening tour of Lick observatory sold out. We may need a few local volunteers tho'. Mojo and I are driving some of the registrants in our van to Lick.
  • Thursday July 22, 8 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Doubletree, 6 p.m. to midnight at Chabot Space and Science Center. Again indicate morning, afternoon or evening preferences. Morning people needed because of the previous evening trip. :-)
  • Friday July 23, 8 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Doubletree, 7 p.m. to 10:00 ASP banquet with Geoff Marcy. Again indicate morning, afternoon or evening preferences.
  • Saturday July 24, 8 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Doubletree, Banquet and telescopes at USS Hornet. We already have volunteers for the Hornet, but anyone who wants to bring telescopes, I'll pass your name on to the Hornet telescope coordinator. There are still tickets for the dinner.

That's it. Check out the schedule and attend those talks or events you want to and volunteer for another slot. As a special incentive, I will personally present each volunteer with a special packet of my own special Cassini Mission to Saturn outreach material!

Hope to hear from many of you soon!
